Azul Beach Resort Wedding {Justin & Cortney}
Some say love has a recipe. A cup of romance, 2 spoonfuls of joy, a heap of happiness, a dash of dreams… you get the point, right? It’s a feel good way to think about the most important aspect to life. One of my favorite quotes is from Ernest H. Shephard who said “If you live to be 100, I hope to live to be 100 minus one day, so I never have to live without you.
If I had to describe the recipe for Justin and Cortney’s love, it would involve 3 bottles of Sangria, 2 big handfuls of laughter, a pitcher of sarcasm, a huge heap of passion, a cup of intellect, a dash of smiles, and a pinch of seriousness. Okay, and maybe a sprinkle of drive.
And the love quote that reminds me of them?
Calvin: What's it like to fall in love?
Hobbes: Well... say the object of your affection walks by...
Calvin: Yeah?
Hobbes: First, your heart falls into your stomach and splashes your innards. All the moisture makes you sweat profusely. This condensation shorts the circuits to your brain and you get all woozy. When your brain burns out altogether, your mouth disengages and you babble like a cretin until she leaves.
Calvin: THAT'S LOVE?!?
Hobbes: Medically speaking.
Calvin: Heck, that happened to me once, but I figured it was cooties!
We knew nothing about this couple, other than the fact that they were friends with our bride and groom and were getting married in Mexico.
Over several months Kris and I grew to know Justin and Cortney as more that just clients. They constantly checked in to see how our kids were doing, had modeled for our most published styled shoot to date (Piney River Ranch, Vail, CO) and when they asked if we'd capture their destination wedding, we couldn't believe it!
With the wedding creeping up, we knew September and October were the best, yet worst months for us. Best because we're so busy, worst, because we're so busy. The mountain leaves change in September and the front-range leaves change in October, leaving us with back to back months of crazy busy schedules and traveling all over the state with senior photos! As October 27th (date of departure) drew near, Kris and I were beyond excited!
As we boarded the plane, Kris and I pondered over the people boarding and who would be at their wedding. Armed with our own supply of Bloody Mary's, we relaxed in complete silence (no kiddos) for our entire 230 minute flight to Cancun!
With just under a week to get to know family and friends, we thoroughly enjoyed sitting on the "outside" capturing every moment. The amount of joy and laughter that surrounded this couple was incredible. Love from childhood friendships and the joining of two families who were over the moon about their newest family member, was simply amazing!!
People often tell us that we have an "awesome job" and the truth is, we do!! We love every second of our day, no matter how stressful it can be. Kris and I stand at more than 20 weddings a year and watch couples vow to an eternal commitment. We're not just photographers, we're friends, we become family, we're trusted into the lives of people during some of their most vulnerable moments and we commit to help protect their vows. We've seen some of our brides through their worst moments and day after day, we come back to days like this and laugh because we know that in this moment, all is well. No matter what the future holds, this moment, right here, right now, is, perfect.
To Justin and Cortney: We thank you. We thank you for trusting us so much that we were a priority for your wedding day. We thank you for welcoming us into your family with open arms and allowing us to see the love that have for each other. We pray that every time you look at your photos, you're taken back to these moments and they bring you peace and joy, knowing you were surrounded by love and laughter on one of the happiest days of your lives!
